The Agricultural and Veterinary University of the Banat "King Michael I of Romania" in Timişoara ( Romanian Universitatea de Ştiinţe Agricole şi Medicină Veterinară a Banatului “Regele Mihai I al României” din Timişoara ) was established as a faculty of the Polytechnic University of Timişoara in 1945 . In 1990 this faculty was spun off and expanded to an independent university with 6 faculties under the founding rector Păun Otiman . His successors were Alexandru Moisuc (2004–2012), Paul Pirsan (2012–2016) and Cosmin Alin Popescu (since February 2016).

The university chairs the German-Romanian agricultural training center in Voiteg and is a partner in the European research project Biofector .
