Ardatow ( Russian Арда́тов , ersjanisch Орданьбуе , Ordanbuje ) is a small town in the Republic of Mordovia ( Russia ) with 9400 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).

geography

The city is located about 100 km northeast of the republic capital Saransk on the Alatyr , a left tributary of the Sura that flows into the Volga . The city is not to be confused with the urban-type (and former city) settlement of the same name Ardatow in the neighboring Nizhny Novgorod Oblast .

Ardatow is the administrative center of the Rajons of the same name .

history

Ardatow was first mentioned in 1671 as the village Ardatowo ( Арда́тово ) and received city rights in 1780.
