Hans-Ulrich Hege (born March 15, 1928 in Waldenburg -Hohebuch) is a German certified farmer, plant breeder and mechanical engineer. He is considered to be the inventor of the plot combine for field test cultivation.

Live and act

Born as the son of Hans Hege , he grew up on a farm with seed breeding in Hohebuch , attended the Waldenburg elementary school and the Schwäbisch Hall grammar school .

From 1944 he was drafted as a flak helper, was wounded and was taken prisoner of war, from which he returned in June 1945. After training in agriculture in Hohebuch and Schwäbisch Hall-Oberlimpurg, he began studying agriculture in Stuttgart-Hohenheim and Bonn in 1949 , which he completed in 1951 with a diploma. This was followed by training as a plant breeder in Weihenstephan and employment as an estate official at the Söderhof manor near Hildesheim. There he was the organizer of the first world record in grain threshing in 1952 with a combine harvester of the Claas Super type with 1000 quintals / day.

In 1954, he joined his father as a tenant of the Hohebuch-Waldenburg / Württemberg domain with the simultaneous takeover of the Dr. Maintain in Hohebuch. The following year the first combine harvester was bought in Hohebuch. As part of the breeding of winter wheat varieties, Hege developed the first plot combine in 1963 as a world first for plant breeding and experimental farms as well as the plant protection industry.

This was followed by the founding of the Hans-Ulrich Hege Saatzuchtmaschinen GmbH in Hohebuch, which gained worldwide fame as a manufacturer of machines for modern plant breeding and testing. After German reunification, Hans-Ulrich Hege applied for the management of the MDW combine harvester works Singwitz near Bautzen and was awarded this position. The aim of the Treuhandanstalt was to maintain this business instead of liquidating it. The initial difficulties were enormous, because the market for the previous combine harvester types collapsed.

Over the years, however, Hans-Ulrich Hege in Singwitz made it possible to start manufacturing test field combines in addition to normal production. The agricultural machinery plant in Hohebuch has now been taken over by the Zürn company from Schöntal-Westernhausen , while Saatzucht Dr. Hege continues to exist under the ancestral name.
