Karl Fritz Lauer (* 11. April 1938 in Săcălaz German ( Sackelhausen ), Kingdom of Romania ; † 5. June 2018 in Leonberg ) was a Romanian-German agronomist for Phytopathology and herbology . Together with Heinrich Graepel, he published research results on the population dynamics of the western corn rootworm (Diabrotica virgifera virgifera LeConte).

biography

Lauer was born in the Banat as the son of a German teacher and vice-notary , his older brother was the journalist Heinrich Lauer . Lauer started school while fleeing the chaos of war in Vienna in 1944. After the end of the war back in the Banat, elementary school followed in Săcălaz, middle school for the food industry and evening lyceum in Timișoara with high school diploma.

Studied at the Timișoara Agricultural University with a degree in agricultural engineering (1965) and a doctorate as Dr. agr. at Gh. Anghel (1974) followed. This was followed by activities at the land registry office in Timişoara, military service in Ploieşti and employment in the agricultural research station in Lovrin .

After moving to the Federal Republic of Germany in 1981, he was initially employed as a scientist at the Botanical Institute of the University of Regensburg and (1983–1995) was in charge of the scientific field research of Rhône-Poulenc for southern Germany.

In 1991 he was appointed honorary professor for crop protection by the Agricultural University of the Banat in Timișoara , and also taught this subject at the Technical University of Munich in Freising . Since 1996 he has been a lecturer in herbology at the Weihenstephan University of Applied Sciences and, as a doctoral supervisor, supervised students at the Timișoara Agricultural University in research work and the preparation of agricultural dissertations and received an honorary doctorate as Dr. hc Together with Păun Otiman , he was co-initiator of the Vojteg Agricultural School , which was reopened in 2007, and was on its advisory board together with Director Fora until the end. He also maintained close relationships with the later university rectors Alexandru Moisuc (2004–2012), Paul Pirsan (2012–2016) and Cosmin Alin Popescu (since February 2016) in order to establish international contacts. In the European research project Biofector , he was an important team member, especially in field testing. Together with Heinrich Graepel, he published research results on the population dynamics of the western corn rootworm (Diabrotica virgifera virgifera LeConte).

Lauer was married and lived with his wife Helga in Leonberg, together they had two grown children.
