history
The place, first mentioned in 1392, was inhabited by Romanians until 1767. From 1765 onwards, mainly southwest German emigrants were settled in the Banat as part of the Swabian Trains. Some village streets - Lietzenburger Gasse, Lothringer Gasse, Mainzer Gasse and Schwarzwälder Gasse - point to the origins of the settlers, who in the first generation almost all fell victim to diseases and epidemics ( plague , cholera , typhus ). At the beginning of the 19th century there was prosperity in Sackelhausen. Nevertheless, there was an emigration to North America .
Around 1940 the Catholic community, consisting almost exclusively of Banat Swabians , reached its demographic peak with over 4,000 inhabitants. The Second World War , the inclusion of the Germans in the Wehrmacht , flight, expulsion, deportations to Russia and the Bărăgan as well as the expropriation of agricultural property , the basis of the existence of the predominantly rural population, ushered in the final exodus, which practically took place between 1981 and 1985 led to the end of German settlement.
Many of the former residents of Sackelhausen (more than 1000) now live in the Reutlingen / Metzingen area , others in other parts of Western Europe.
economy
The largest employer in Sackelhausen is the Honold Logistik Gruppe , which operates a logistics park there together with the Dietrich company. The logistics park was expanded in 2013 for Heraeus Dental, a subsidiary of the Japanese Mitsui. Heraeus is to employ more than 100 people in the high-tech and pharmaceuticals sectors. The park has clean room technology, emergency power generators and its own electricity and water supply.
