history
Margina was first mentioned in a document in 1365. In the Middle Ages the place belonged alternately to the districts of Timiș and Hunedoara. In 1439 there was a castle here, which János Török destroyed in 1551 , but was rebuilt in 1554. In 1658 Margina fell to the Ottomans .
At the time of the Josephinian land survey of 1717, the place was called Marschina . After the Peace of Passarowitz (1718), when the Banat became a Habsburg crown domain , Margina was part of the Temescher Banat . During the Habsburg colonization , Germans and Hungarians were settled here, as civil servants and as workers in the vinegar factory .
On June 4, 1920, the Banat was divided into three parts as a result of the Treaty of Trianon . The largest, eastern part, to which Margina also belongs, fell to the Kingdom of Romania .
In the interwar period, the vinegar and wood industries were important economic factors. After the revolution of 1989 the industry collapsed, which resulted in an emigration to the big cities of the Banat and abroad.
