Valcani (1924: Vălcani , German: Walkan , Hungarian: Valkany ) is a municipality in Timiș County , in the Banat region , in southwest Romania .
Geographical location
Valcani is located in the far west of Timiș County, on the border with Serbia and has a border crossing. The place is located 20 kilometers southwest of Sânnicolau Mare and is the terminus of the Timișoara-Valcani railway line. The Aranka crosses the place before it flows into the Tisza .

history
Valcani was first mentioned in 1256 under the name Villa Kywolkan . In 1647 the place belonged to the Csánad family. After the Peace of Passarowitz (1718), when the Banat became a Habsburg crown domain , Valcani was part of the Temescher Banat . Valcani had the status of a municipality from 1877 to 1968, after which it belonged to the municipality of Dudeştii Vechi .
The Treaty of Trianon on June 4, 1920 resulted in the Banat being divided into three , whereby Valcani fell to the Kingdom of Romania . After a referendum in 2004, Valcani became an independent municipality again. From 1924 to 1925 the place was called Vălcani .
