history

Ghilad was first mentioned in 1212 by the historian Budinschi. It cannot be ruled out that the place name comes from the voivode Glad, who may have had his residence here. On the Josephine land survey of 1717, the place Gilad was recorded. After the Peace of Passarowitz (1718), when the Banat became a Habsburg crown domain , Gilad was part of the Temescher Banat . Empress Maria Theresia settled the place with Germans in 1761; Hungary was also added in 1860. On the Mercy map (1723–1726) two places with the same name are recorded, a manor and a village, which are separated by forests.

On June 4, 1920, the Banat was divided into three parts as a result of the Treaty of Trianon . The largest, eastern part, to which Ghilad also belongs, fell to the Kingdom of Romania .

The community of Ghilad emerged from the small town of Ciacova (Tschakowa) since 2004 by outsourcing .
