Gavojdia (also Găvojdia , German: Gawoschdia , Hungarian: Gavosdia ) is a municipality in Timiș County , in the Banat region , in southwest Romania . The villages of Jena , Lugojel and Sălbăgel also belong to the municipality of Gavojdia .

Geographical location

Gavojdia is located in the southeast of Timiș County, on the European route E-70 and on the Caransebeș -Lugoj-Timișoara railway , 71.6 kilometers from Timișoara and 11.6 kilometers from Lugoj and borders the Caraș-Severin County .

history

Gavojdia was first mentioned in a document in 1363. In 1447 Johann Hunyadi donated part of the estate to Dan and Vlad Temesely, the other part was owned by Peter and Janos Denes.

In old Hungarian documents the place appears under the name Cuvejd , between 1514 and 1516 as Gavojdioara .

On the Josephine land survey of 1717, the place Gavosdia was noted. After the Peace of Passarowitz (1718), when the Banat became a Habsburg crown domain , Gavosdia was part of the Temescher Banat .

On June 4, 1920, the Banat was divided into three parts as a result of the Treaty of Trianon . The largest, eastern part, to which Gavojdia also belongs, fell to the Kingdom of Romania .
