history

The first written mention of the village of Zylwas comes from the year 1411. In the records of the scholar Marsigli from 1690 to 1700, the place Sylbagir belonged to the Caransebeş district . During the Turkish occupation the inhabitants withdrew to the mountains and the place was deserted. After the Peace of Passarowitz (1718), when the Banat became a Habsburg crown domain , Sylbagie was part of the Temescher Banat . Sylbasel is inhabited on the Mercy map from 1723 . In 1801 Baron Michael Bruckenthal was the landlord of the village.

After the Austro-Hungarian Compromise (1867), the Banat was annexed to the Kingdom of Hungary within the dual monarchy of Austria-Hungary . The official place name was Szilváshely . The Treaty of Trianon on June 4, 1920 resulted in the triple division of the Banat, whereby Sălbăgel fell to the Kingdom of Romania .

In 1896, the Volksbank founded a new village, Sălbăgelu Nou , 2 kilometers from Sălbăgel , which was settled by German colonists. Today Sălbăgelu Nou belongs to the Caraș-Severin County.

In the interwar period, Sălbăgel belonged to the Sacu district, Severin district.
