history

The history of the village is closely linked to the medieval fortress of Jdioara, the ruins of which lie one kilometer to the northeast.

The fortress was probably built in the 13th century and was part of the Hungarian defensive belt against the Tatars who invaded here in 1241. The name of the fortress probably comes from the Hungarian family Zydoy.

The fortress was first mentioned in a document in 1320. In the 17th century, the Jdioara fortress was conquered during the Great Turkish War and destroyed after the Peace of Karlowitz .

The Turkish traveler Evlyia Çelebi left a detailed description of the fortress.

Today the fortress of Jdioara is part of Romania's national historical property.
