Criciova (Hungarian: Kricsó , Serbian: Кричова ) is a municipality in Timiș County , in the Banat region , in southwestern Romania . The villages of Cireșu , Cireșu Mic and Jdioara also belong to the municipality of Criciova .

Geographical location

Criciova is located in the east of Timiș County, on DJ 681 county road, 77.3 km from Timișoara and 17.3 km from Lugoj .

history

In 1223 a settlement in the area of ​​today's Criciova was first mentioned. Archaeological excavations testify to the existence of human life on the area of ​​the municipality since the 1st century.

Over the centuries the place several Hungarian names had Kricsiovai , Krichcjova , Křištová , crisis .

On the Josephine land survey of 1717, the place Krischova was registered. After the Peace of Passarowitz (1718), when the Banat became a Habsburg crown domain , Krischova was part of the Temescher Banat .

On June 4, 1920, the Banat was divided into three parts as a result of the Treaty of Trianon . The largest, eastern part, to which Criciova also belongs, fell to the Kingdom of Romania . Since then, Criciova has been the official name of the municipality.
