history
In medieval documents when the Banat was part of the Kingdom of Hungary , Curtea appears with the Hungarian spelling Kyrtiwa . In 1506 the place was mentioned under the name Wdawarhely , and in 1597 under the name Kurthe .
According to legend, Curtea is said to have been the summer residence of the Voivode Glad and the place name Curtea comes from the fact that Glad is said to have held court here (Curtea = court).
After the Peace of Passarowitz (1718), when the Banat became a Habsburg crown domain , Curtea was part of the Temescher Banat .
On June 4, 1920, the Banat was divided into three parts as a result of the Treaty of Trianon . The largest, eastern part, to which Curtea also belongs, fell to the Kingdom of Romania .
The wooden church "Cuvioasa Paraschiva" from Curtea is a listed building . It was built in 1794 and is the largest wooden church in the Banat with a length of 18.60 m, a width of 7.20 m and a height of 9.50 m.
