Claudio Szenkar

Claudio Gil Octavio Fernando Szenkar (born January 1, 1940 in Rio de Janeiro ; † September 23, 2002 ) was a German jazz musician ( piano , vibraphone , also organ ), songwriter , arranger and music producer .

Live and act

Szenkar, who came to Germany from Brazilian emigration in 1950 with his parents and grew up first in Mannheim and from 1952 in Düsseldorf, received his first musical training from his father, Eugen Szenkar , who himself worked as a composer and conductor. Then he studied music at the Conservatory in Düsseldorf and in Boston at the Berklee School of Music .

Szenkar was one of the Feetwarmers from 1959 to 1961 , with whom he also toured the United States; as a member he was honored as the best pianist and vibraphonist at the German Amateur Jazz Festival in 1960 . Then he worked as a studio musician and founded his own quintet as a jazz musician, in which u. a. Volker Kriegel was active. In 1966 he appeared at the German Jazz Festival with a quartet that he led together with Klaus Weiss . He was also one of Volker Kriegel's first bands.

From 1967 he worked as an arranger and songwriter in the hit area, among others for Adam & Eve , Howard Carpendale , Gerd Böttcher , Roberto Blanco and Sandra (Haas) , but also supervised The Lords . He also composed music for commercials and for television. As a studio musician, he continued to record with Klaus Doldinger ( Paul Nero Sounds ) and Berry Lipman ( The Most Beautiful Girls in the World ). With Shirley Bassey and Sammy Davis Jr. he went on tour. He was married to the pop singer Sandra Haas.
