Carl Gibson is a philosopher, literary scholar, non-fiction and specialist book author, journalist, writer, historian, founder and director of the "Institute for the Enlightenment and Processing of the Communist Past in Europe". From 1976 to 1989 Gibson was active as a civil rights activist and dissident in Romania. In 1977 he was arrested in Bucharest when he tried to sign the Charter 77 Appeal for Solidarity from the opposition writer Paul Goma . Until his departure in October 1979, Gibson opposed partly individually, partly as part of the political-artistic circle OTB ( Romanian Organizaţia Timiş-Banat ). There were also contacts to German-speaking writers from the Banat action group and the Adam-Müller-Guttenbrunn district in Timisoara. Gibson was interrogated several times by the Securitate, some of which were tortured.

After the partial smashing of the Free Trade Union of Romanian Workers SLOMR (Sindicatul liber al oamenilor muncii din România) founded in Bucharest, he founded the regional organization SLOMR Timisoara with 16 other sympathizers of the Free Trade Union . After his arrest on charges of “having founded an anarchist organization with an anti-socialist character”, he served six months in prison in the Popa Șapcă asylum in Timişoara.

After his departure to the Federal Republic of Germany , Carl Gibson continued to campaign for democratic structures in Romania and appeared as spokesman for the SLOMR in the West. As part of an investigation by the International Labor Organization (ILO) initiated by the international trade union confederation Confederation Mondial du Travail World Confederation of Labor , Carl Gibson, among others, was also heard. The investigation, in which the Romanian government under Nicolae Ceaușescu was accused of having failed to respect the agreements on general civil rights and trade union freedoms it had ratified, dragged on from 1981 to 1984 and led to the release of long-term convicted union founders.

From 1982 Gibson studied political science, history and philosophy, first at the Friedrich-Alexander-University Erlangen-Nürnberg , later at the Eberhard-Karls-Universität Tübingen , the University of Vienna and the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg , until he moved to Julius in 1985 -Maximilians-Universität Würzburg changed. After graduating (philosophy, German studies, history) he worked as a lecturer and research assistant.

Carl Gibson has published since 1982 and is a journalist; In addition to scientific publications, he has written numerous essays and books on current topics. Gibson had lived mainly in Bad Mergentheim since 1992 , where he founded an institute for business ethics in 1993 . In 2005 this was expanded to include philosophical practice . Gibson has published several of his works online and is a blogger . In 2018 he moved to Tauberbischofsheim . Gibson is a member of the Association of German Writers as part of the United Service Union (ver.di) .
