The Tauber-Zeitung (TZ) is a regional edition of the Fränkische Nachrichten from Tauberbischofsheim . In the subtitle it is called Bad Mergentheimer Tagblatt - Tauberbischofsheimer Rundschau - Official Gazette in the Main-Tauber district . The newspaper based in Bad Mergentheim no longer has its own editorial team since May 2015, but the Fränkische Nachrichten will continue to run it as an independent title.

Characteristics

Before it was taken over by Fränkische Nachrichten , the paper had a sold circulation of 5,038 copies (IVW I / 2015) and appeared primarily in a sub-area of the Main-Tauber district - the Tauberbischofsheim area and the old Bad Mergentheim district. The Franconian News is also represented there with its local editions Tauberbischofsheim and Bad Mergentheim. Since the takeover, the circulation numbers of the Tauber-Zeitung are no longer shown individually.

Career

Building of the Tauber newspaper in Bad Mergentheim

The history of the Tauber newspaper began in 1790 when the court printer Christian Ernst Griebel applied to the sovereign to be allowed to print a newspaper. The Grand Master of the Teutonic Order at the time , Maximilian Franz von Austria, complied with this request . The first edition of the new weekly newspaper appeared on January 22, 1791 under the name Mergentheimer Intellektivenblatt .

At the end of the 1820s, its third editor, Johann Georg Thomm, renamed the periodical to Mergentheimer Wochenblatt , according to the frequency of publication . The Tauber newspaper received its current name in 1848 from his son Ignaz Thomm, who published it three times a week from 1866 onwards. On October 1, 1891, his brother Johann Thomm made the paper a daily newspaper.

In 2001 the Ulmer Südwest Presse took over part of the Tauber-Zeitung and in 2008 the entire Tauber-Zeitung , which meant that the newspaper , which had previously been run as a family business, lost its independence. The paper had already received its national section from the Südwest Presse . The editorial staff of the local section was still in Bad Mergentheim.

In autumn 2014, Neue Pressegesellschaft mbH & Co. KG (NPG), publisher of Südwest Presse, gave up the newspaper and sold the title rights including subscription data to Fränkische Nachrichten Verlags-GmbH, which belongs to the Dr. Haas ( Mannheimer Morgen ) heard. Following the approval of the Cartel Office, Fränkische Nachrichten has continued the title since May 1, 2015. Of the last 21 employees, only three were taken on. While local and regional content is taken over by the Fränkische Nachrichten , the Mannheimer Morgen delivers the supraregional cover part.

The editor-in-chief was Claus Peter Mühleck for 36 years, who retired at the end of March 2010 and died in October 2012. His successor was Oliver Bauer.
