Wilhelm Kühlmann

Wilhelm Kühlmann (born March 24, 1946 in Gelsenkirchen ) is a German Germanist who taught modern German literature at the University of Heidelberg .

Life

Wilhelm Kühlmann studied German, Latin philology and philosophy at the University of Freiburg and the University of Hamburg and received his doctorate in 1973 under Karl Büchner ( catalog and narrative. Studies on constancy and change in a literary form in ancient epic ). He then worked as assistant to Wolfram Mauser at the Germanic seminar in Freiburg and completed his habilitation in 1980 ( Republic of Scholars and Princely State. After substituting professorships in Münster, Braunschweig and Osnabrück, he was professor for modern German literary studies, taking comparative literary history into account, at the University of Heidelberg since 1987 . He is particularly concerned with humanism and neo-Latin literature of the early modern period, for example with the successor to Paracelsus , e.g. B. he edited works by Oswald Crollius (with Joachim Telle ) and Johann Valentin Andreae . Kühlmann is co-editor of the author's lexicon of the early modern period ( Early Modern Age in Germany 1520–1620 - literary scholarly author's lexicon (VL 16) ) and is editor of the new edition of the Killy literary lexicon . He is editor or co-editor of the magazine Daphnis , the book series Chloe (Amsterdam: Rodopi), Early Modern Times , Mannheimer Contributions to Linguistics and Literature Studies , Bibliotheca Neolatina and the yearbook Antike und Abendland .

Since 1997 he has been a member of the Heidelberg Academy of Sciences . Within the Academy, he is a member of the commissions for the Goethe dictionary and the Melanchthon edition and is chairman of the Reuchlin commission.
