Antiquity and the Occident

Antiquity and Occident (Contribution to understanding the Greeks and Romans and their afterlife; abbreviations A & A , Au A , Ant Ab , Ant Abendland , Antike Aben and Antike Abendl ) is a scientific yearbook in the field of classical antiquity .

The yearbook was founded by Bruno Snell at the end of the Second World War . The first volume for 1944 was published in 1945. Up to 1948 there were three volumes, from 1954 to 1962 volumes 4 to 11. Since volume 12 (1966) the magazine has been published annually. It aims to provide a forum for the discussion of interdisciplinary questions about antiquity and its history of reception and impact, with the disciplines of Classical Philology, Ancient History, German Studies, Romance Studies and English Studies also being appropriately represented on the editorial board. The committee currently includes Wilhelm Kühlmann , Werner von Koppenfels , Helmut Krasser , Christoph Riedweg ,Ernst A. Schmidt , Wolfgang Schuller and Rainer Stillers .

Articles are published in German, English, French and also Italian. The yearbooks do not have a review section.
