Christoph Riedweg

Christoph Riedweg (born December 26, 1957 in Zug ) is a Swiss classical philologist (Graecist) and former director of the Istituto Svizzero di Roma .

After completing his Matura at Einsiedeln High School , he studied classical philology and musicology in Zurich from 1977 to 1983, and in 1984 he graduated as a teacher. In 1985 he received his doctorate in Zurich. From 1983 to 1988 and from 1991 to 1993 Riedweg worked as an assistant at the Classical Philological Seminar in Zurich . In between he was a scholarship holder of the Swiss National Science Foundation in Oxford , Leuven / Louvain-la-Neuve and Munich . In 1993 he was appointed full professor for Classical Philology ( Greek Studies ) at the University of Mainz and in 1996 he was appointed Full Professor of Classical Philology / Greek Studies at the University of Zurich . From April 2005 to January 2013 he was director of the Istituto Svizzero di Roma .

He is co-editor of numerous magazines and series, e.g. B. Hypomnemata (since 1997).

Christoph Riedweg deals with topics from Greek poetry, philosophy and the history of religion (including Orphics and Pythagoreanism ), taking into account their reception in Jewish-Hellenistic and early Christian literature and beyond.
