Werner von Koppenfels

Werner von Koppenfels (born November 25, 1938 in Dresden ) is a German philologist and translator .

Life

Werner von Koppenfels completed in 1956 to study English Literature and Romance Studies at the universities in Heidelberg , Munich and Nice . In 1967 he earned his doctorate in philosophy with a thesis on John Donne in Munich . In 1973 he received his habilitation , and from 1974 he was professor of English and comparative literature at the University of Munich . In 1986/1987 he was visiting professor at the University of Virginia and in 1992 at the University of Minnesota . Koppenfels, who has since retired , now lives in Munich.

Koppenfels has been a member of the German Academy for Language and Poetry in Darmstadt since 1994 .

Werner von Koppenfels published literary studies; since 1996 he has been one of the editors of the magazine Antike und Abendland . He also translates literary texts from English, French, Spanish and Latin.
