University of Nice Sophia-Antipolis
The University of Nice Sophia-Antipolis ( French : Université de Nice Sophia-Antipolis ) is a French university with several locations in the Alpes-Maritimes department .
The history of the university goes back to the 17th century, when the Count of Savoy founded a law college in Nice . A medical college was added in the 18th century. At that time, students from these two universities in Nice were automatically elevated to the nobility when they graduate.
From the 1930s onwards, the higher education institutions in Nice were gradually added to the University of Aix-Marseille , and it wasn't until October 23, 1965 that they became an independent university, at that time still the University of Nice .
Today this university, which is now spread over 11 larger campuses throughout the department, has almost 26,000 students.
