The Institut de physique du globe de Paris (IPGP; French for Institute for Geophysics Paris) is a geophysical research institute in Paris .

The IPGP, founded in 1921, is a state-owned grand établissement . The IPGP is a non-profit organization led by Director Claude Jaupart .

The IPGP is part of the CNRS and at the same time the second largest CNRS research unit. The institute has 14 research departments and six observatories. One of the tasks of the IPGP is the monitoring of the active volcanoes on French territory, the management of the global GEOSCOPE program and participation in the global network for monitoring the Earth's magnetic field, Intermagnet .

The IPGP operates permanent observatories to monitor volcanoes on the islands of Réunion ( Piton de la Fournaise ), Guadeloupe ( Soufrière ) and Martinique ( Montagne Pelée ).

The IPGP consists of three buildings in Paris. Until 2010, the main building was on the Jussieu Campus in the 5th arrondissement of Paris. Since 2010 the head office has been located in a modern building adjacent to the Jussieu Campus, in front of the Jardin des Plantes. In addition, the IPGP has a second campus 6 km east of Paris and a third in Paris VII, which is mainly used as a teaching campus.
