The University of Paul Cézanne Aix-Marseille III ( French Université Paul Cézanne Aix-Marseille III ) is one of three state universities in the greater Marseille area. They are located in Provence in the cities of Aix-en-Provence and Marseille . The university was founded after the reorganization of the French universities by the Loi Faure of 1968 from parts of the University of Provence Aix-Marseille I and the University of the Mediterranean Aix-Marseille II in 1973 as the third university in the Marseille area. It was named after the French painter Paul Cézanne , who came from Aix-en-Provence .
In 2011 it was dissolved and merged with the other two universities in Aix and Marseille to form the University of Aix-Marseille , the largest francophone university in the world.
