The Compiègne Technical University ( French Université de Technologie de Compiègne , UTC ) in Compiègne in northern France is a grande école (engineering college) and the first technical university in France.

history

It was founded in 1972 based on the model of the American University of Pennsylvania . Like the other two technical universities in Belfort-Montbéliard and Troyes, the TU Compiègne is a mixture between an engineering college and a conventional university.

With around 4,400 students (as of 2016), it is relatively small for a university.

Education

The course at the TU Compiègne is divided into a two-year basic course for everyone and a subsequent three-year main course with more options. However, half of the students completed their undergraduate studies in a preparatory class or another university and only come to UTC for their main studies. The main course concludes with an engineering diploma in one of six different fields of study. These are:

  • Biotechnology - Génie biologique (GB)
  • Energy, environmental and chemical process engineering - Génie des procédés (GP) , formerly Génie chimique (GC)
  • Computer science - Génie informatique (GI)
  • Mechanical engineering - Génie mécanique (GM)
  • Mechanical engineering for systems - Génie des systèmes mécaniques (GSM)
  • Civil Engineering - Génie des systèmes urbains (GSU)

In addition to the engineering degree from the university, the state master’s degree can also be obtained.

International cooperation

Together with the Technical University of Braunschweig, the university also offers a binational postgraduate course in mechatronics as a two-year master’s course. The participants study for one year each in Compiègne and Braunschweig.

In addition, UTC has entered into a cooperation specifically with the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the Technical University of Braunschweig for a double degree . Students from both universities, after having completed half of their hourly work (two semesters of main course and one semester of internship [stage] or diploma thesis [Projet de fin d'études] ) in the respective foreign country, both degrees from the universities and thus receive two full diplomas France and Germany. The title of the French degree depends on the fields of study to which the chosen courses belong.
