The University of Lorraine is a state university in the French region of Lorraine , the result of the merger of the University of Nancy and the University of Metz has emerged.

history

The establishment of the Université de Lorraine goes back to the merger of the three universities Henri Poincaré / Nancy-I (UHP), Nancy-II (UN2) and the Institut national polytechnique de Lorraine (INPL) to form the University of Nancy in March 2007.

Through the merger with the Paul Verlaine University - Metz (UPVM) in October 2009, the Center for Research and Higher Education of the Université de Lorraine (French: Pôle de recherche et d'enseignement supérieur (PRES) de l'Université de Lorraine ) is established.

After the conditions for the merger of the two universities were set in September 2010, this will be approved by all administrative boards on January 25, 2011. With the decree of September 22, 2011, the Université de Lorraine is officially founded and receives the status of a Grand établissement . The merger finally took place on January 1, 2012.

Despite the merger of the 2 (or 4) universities, the division into faculties ( Unités de formation et de recherche - UFR) and institutes for technology ( Instituts universitaires de technologie - IUT) remains largely unchanged.
