The University of South Brittany (French: Université de Bretagne-Sud , UBS ) is a French state university that was founded in 1995. They are located in Vannes , Lorient and Pontivy in the south of the French region of Brittany .
At the end of 2016, around 9,000 students were studying at UBS, which makes the still young university one of the smaller universities in France.
history
Even before the university was founded, there were higher education institutions in the region. The forerunners of today's UBS date back to 1966.
- 1966: Founding of the École de droit et de sciences économiques in Vannes
- 1970: Founding of the Institut universitaire de technologie (IUT) Vannes
- 1971: Creation of the Institut universitaire de technologie (IUT) Lorient
- 1990: Planning contract between the state and the region to found a university
- 1991: Foundation of the pôle de développement universitaire at the Lorient et Vannes sites, as a nucleus for a university
- 1992: Creation of the Institut universitaire professionnalisé (IUP) Lorient and the Institut universitaire professionnalisé (IUP) Vannes
- 1995: Founding of the University of South Brittany by decree on February 7th. This makes UBS the fourth university in Brittany
- 2004: Introduction of the LMD system (degrees license - master - doctorat ) to implement the Bologna reforms
- 2009: Establishment of two classes préparatoires
