The University of French Polynesia ( French : Université de la Polynésie française ) has existed independently since 1999 and is based in Punaauia , a municipality on the west coast of the Pacific island of Tahiti ( French Polynesia ).
history
Created by decree of May 29, 1987, the university was originally referred to as the French University of the Pacific and was split between two campuses: Nouméa (now University of New Caledonia) and Tahiti. The administrative seat of the college was in Papeete (Tahiti). Both centers have been autonomous since 1999 (Decree No. 99–445 of May 31, 1999).
The University of French Polynesia is based in Outumaoro, Punaauia. The number of students is growing steadily, with a significant increase of over 60% since 1999 (3,051 students in 2012), and the range of courses.

organization
The university is run by the president. He determines the policy of the institution with the help of the Board of Directors. He is responsible for the university's budget. He is elected for a four-year term.
There are four Vice Presidents with the following departments:
- Board of Directors: Patrick Capolsini, lecturer in computer science
- Scientific advice: Alban Gabillon, University Professor of Computer Science
- Student life: Vincent Dropsy, lecturer in economics
- Student Representative: Andrew Jean.
The Board of Directors (Conseil d'Administration) determines the university's policy.
The campus
The Outumaoro campus extends over an area of more than 12 hectares, of which more than 15,000 m² are built on:
- Teaching building (lecture halls, amphitheater)
- Research laboratories
- Meeting rooms, video rooms, computer rooms, language laboratory
- a scientific library with approx. 45,000 books, 257 magazines, videos and DVDs (over 800 titles), CD-Roms and online documentation (databases, texts, magazines)
- 72 rooms in the dormitory

- Climbing wall (unique facility in French Polynesia)

International Relations
The International Relations Department is responsible for implementing the university's international cooperation policy. Under the responsibility of the president of the university, a project leader coordinates the actions of international politics.
