The University of Provence Aix-Marseille I ( French : Université de Provence Aix-Marseille I ) is one of three state universities in the greater Marseille area . They are located in the localities of Aix-en-Provence , Arles , Aubagne , Lambesc and Marseille. It was re-established in 1968 and emerged from the amalgamation of several autonomous faculties that belonged to the University of Aix-Marseille before the French Revolution .

It is named after the historic Provence landscape in the south of France , today part of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region .

history

The university was founded by the Loi Faure in 1969 from parts of the former University of Aix-Marseille as part of the reorganization of the French universities after the student unrest of 1968 .

Its locations are spread across the towns of Aix-en-Provence , Arles , Aubagne , Lambesc and Marseille.

Course offer

There are two departments: Language, Literature and Humanities ( Secteur Lettres et Sciences Humaines ) and Natural Sciences and Technology ( Secteur Sciences et Technologies ).
