The Catholic University of Lille (Université Catholique de Lille) is a private university owned by the Catholic Church and is based in Lille , France .
history
The Catholic University of Lille was founded in 1875 with the support of the Catholic Church and a group of Christian business people.
Law , art education , medicine and theology have been offered as subjects of study since the Catholic University was founded . Over the years, independent colleges , institutes and research centers have been established at the university. In 1973 all universities and institutes were amalgamated to form what is now called the “Université Catholique de Lille” , or “La Catho” for short , it is the largest private university in France and recognized by the French state.

The Catholic University of Lille currently has the following facilities:

Around 20,307 students (as of 2010) are enrolled at the university, including around 1,000 foreign students from 78 countries. Every year around 4,900 students achieve an academic degree and more than 1,500 students take part in international exchange programs.
The EDHEC Business School is a spin-off of the Catholic University of Lille.
