The University of Rennes 2 ( French : Université de Haute Bretagne Rennes 2 ) is one of two state universities in the French city of Rennes in the Ille-et-Vilaine department . Around 20,700 students study at it. Olivier David has been president of the university since 2015.

history

The history of the University of Rennes 2 goes back to 1461, when Francis II , Duke of Brittany founded a university in Nantes . Later, parts of this university moved to Rennes. Due to the higher education reform in 1968, this university was divided into the universities of Rennes 1 and Rennes 2. For a long time there have been plans to merge these two universities again.

Facilities

The university is oriented towards the humanities and is divided into five teaching and research units (French: Unités de Recherche et de Formation - UFR for short), sometimes with several sub-departments:

  • Social sciences.

The university also has a distance learning center.
