The École Centrale de Nantes , or Centrale Nantes , is a Grande École d'Ingénieurs - an elite French technical university - founded in 1919 under the name Institut Polytechnique de l'Ouest . Its aim is to offer Bachelor, Master and PhD programs based on the latest scientific developments and best management practices. Centrale Nantes is consistently listed among the best universities in France in several national and international rankings. Centrale Nantes is currently number 4 of the 174 French technical Grande Écoles in the L'Etudiant 2019 ranking.

Centrale Nantes is a member of the Groupe des écoles centrale together with its partner institutions CentraleSupélec , Centrale Lille , Centrale Lyon and Centrale Marseille . It is also a member of the TIME (Top Industrial Managers for Europe) network, which enables student exchanges between the leading technical universities in Europe.
