École nationale supérieure des industries chimiques

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The École nationale supérieure des industries chimiques (ENSIC) in Nancy / France is a grande école for engineering in the field of chemical engineering .

It currently has around 400 students and is part of the Institut National Polytechnique de Lorraine (INPL) (National Polytechnic Institute of Lorraine), which includes the seven engineering colleges in Nancy. It is considered to be one of the best universities in its field in Europe.

Five laboratories are associated with ENSIC:

  • Chemical Engineering Laboratory (Laboratoire des Sciences du Génie Chimique - LSGC)
  • Laboratory for Thermodynamics of Multiphase Systems (Laboratoire de Thermodynamique des Milieux Polyphasés - LTMP)
  • Laboratory for Macromolecular Physics (Laboratoire de Chimie Physique Macromoléculaire - LCPM)
  • Institute of Physical Chemistry of Reactions (Département de Chimie Physique de la Réaction - DCPR)
  • Center for Chemical Engineering of Complex Rheological Systems (Center de Génie Chimique des Milieux Rhéologiquement Complexes GEMICO)

history

The ENSIC was founded under the name “Institut Chimique de Nancy” in 1887, with the intention of supplying the then rapidly growing chemical industry with appropriately trained engineers.

One of the first professors, Victor Grignard , received the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1912 for his invention of organometallic compounds ( Grignard compounds ).
