Lambesc is a French municipality with 9672 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Bouches-du-Rhône in the region of Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur .
geography
Lambesc is located 20 kilometers northwest of Aix-en-Provence .
history
The place was first mentioned as Lambisco in 814 . In the Middle Ages a castle was built in the hills, the village was surrounded by ramparts. Until 1789 the place was owned by various noble families. When the Count of Lorraine acquired the place in 1453, the current coat of arms with the Lorraine cross was introduced. In 1807 the previously independent municipality of Suès was incorporated into Lambesc. In 1909 the place was partially destroyed by a severe earthquake , 46 people in Lambesc and the surrounding areas were killed. In 1944, a German train with ammunition exploded in Lambesc station, again destroying many houses.
