Lançon Castle

Lancon-Provence is a French municipality with 8959 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Bouches-du-Rhône in the region of Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur .

geography

The place is on a hill, 30 kilometers west of Aix-en-Provence and six kilometers south of Salon-de-Provence . The district of La Val de Sibourg on the Canal de Marseille, seven kilometers to the east, belongs to Lançon . In the northwest, the municipality has a share in the airfield of the Patrouille de France , the official aerobatic team of the French Air Force.

Attractions

In Lançon, an inscription from Roman times for an otherwise unknown god Accorus was found.

The most important attraction of the place is the castle ruins, they belonged to the nobility of Les-Baux-de-Provence . The St-Cyr chapel is from the 11th century. There are many old portals from the 17th and 18th centuries in the village.

Transport links

The Autoroute du Soleil runs through the municipality . Lançon is mainly known to tourists for its toll station (Gare de Péage de Lançon). To get to the A7 motorway, however, you have to use the driveway in Salon-de-Provence , six kilometers away .
