history
The area was probably already inhabited by humans in prehistory. Traces of Oppida can be found from the time of the Celts who came to the region in the 4th century BC . In 125 BC the Celts were eventually ousted by the Romans and their allies. Several finds prove the presence of the Romans. In the 9th century, the village on the so-called Wolf Hill was surrounded by a wall that offered protection from attackers. From the Middle Ages to the Revolution, the Saint Victor Abbey in Marseille owned large parts of the Puyloubier territory. In the 19th century the village was dominated by agriculture. The industrial revolution caused rural exodus here : the population sank from 922 inhabitants in 1850 to 550 inhabitants in 1909. In 1950, the completion of the roads to Saint-Antonin and Rousset facilitated the transport connections to Aix-en-Provence and Marseille.
