Saint-Marc-Jaumegarde is a French commune with 1,250 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Bouches-du-Rhône in the region of Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur .
geography
Saint-Marc-Jaumegarde is located five kilometers northeast of Aix-en-Provence on the Cause river , which is dammed up here to form Lake Bimont . Neighboring towns are Le Tholonet and Vauvenargues .
history
The area was inhabited as early as the Neolithic Age, as is shown by finds in caves and old dolmens.
The village was first mentioned in the 11th century. In 1191 the church passed to the Archdiocese of Aix-en-Provence. In the following years the village was owned by different lords. On February 4, 1790, it became a parish of the Bouches-du-Rhône department. In 1953 the Bimont dam was completed in Saint-Marc-Jaumegarde.
