Mallemort is a French municipality with 6019 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Bouches-du-Rhône in the region of Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur .

geography

The municipality is located between Cavaillon, 17 kilometers away, and Salon-de-Provence, 18 kilometers away . The place is on the Durance , which forms the border with the Vaucluse department .

history

In 1092 the place was named "Castro Malemortis". In the twelfth century it was changed to "Mallemort". In 1545 the persecution of the Waldensians began in Mallemort .
