Life

Fernand Pauriol grew up in a farming family in the lower Durance valley . He attended the nautical school in Marseille , where he was trained as a radio operator for the merchant navy.

In Limoges he became a member of the International Red Aid and in 1936 an official of the Front Populaire . His journalistic talents moved François Billoux to promote him. He set up an illegal radio station for the Communist Party (PCF) and adopted the pseudonym Duval . During the PCF's illegality, he worked closely with Jacques Duclos .

In 1942 he built a radio himself in order to establish a connection between the Resistance and the Soviet embassy in London. He also installed another radio in Paris for the Red Chapel resistance groups . After the arrests in Brussels, he also became Leopold Trepper's most important connection , especially during the time when he was playing his radio game . On August 13, 1943, Duval was arrested by the Gestapo , sentenced to death on January 19, 1944 after severe torture and shot in his cell on August 12, 1944 in Fresnes prison near Paris.
