Gilles Perrault (actually Jacques Peyroles ; born March 9, 1931 in Paris ) is a French journalist and novelist .

Life

Perrault attended the Institut d'études politiques de Paris , became a lawyer and initially practiced this profession for five years.

After the success of his essay Les Parachutistes (The Paratroopers), which was inspired by his military service in Algeria and for which he received the Prix Aujourd'hui , he turned to journalism (reports on the India of Nehrus , the Olympic Games in Tokyo and the problem of blacks in the US ). He then undertook research into unknown aspects of the Second World War , in the course of which he wrote, among other things, a standard work on the Red Orchestra.

Le Secret du Jour J (1964) received an award from the Comité d'action de la Resistance and became an international bestseller. L'Orchestre Rouge (1967) became an even bigger success. In 1969 Perrault published a novel, Le Dossier 51 . A more recent important book was his description of the torture regime of Hassan II , the then King of Morocco , which had previously only been reported in flattering terms because of his close ties to the West . The book Le garçon aux yeux gris served as a template for André Téchiné's film Les Égarés .

Some of Perrault's books have also been translated into German.

Gilles Perrault is, together with the singer Renaud, one of the founding members of the group çA suffat comme ci , which wrote the Bastille appeal in 1989 . He is a member of the Comités Coordination française pour la Décennie for the promotion of nonviolence and a culture of peace. He also played a part in the founding of Ras l'front .
