Renaud Pierre Manuel Séchan (born May 11, 1952 in Paris ), known as Renaud , is a French singer-songwriter . He was also active as an actor and satirist.

Life

Renaud comes from a Protestant family of the educated middle class. His father came from Montpellier and taught German at a Paris high school. His grandfather was the Count Louis Séchan, who taught at the Sorbonne . The director Edmond Séchan is his uncle. His mother comes from a humble background and grew up in northern France.

Renaud was married to Romane Serda for the second time since 2005, with whom he has had a son since 2006. He lived with his family in a quiet Parisian suburb. In 2011 they got divorced. From his first marriage he has a daughter named Lolita .

Act

Renaud has been one of the most popular chansonniers in France for many years .

In 1968, with Crève salope! ("Die Bitch") his first success as a songwriter. Renaud's breakthrough came in 1977 with the song Laisse béton . Other successful chansons from him include Hexagone , Dans mon HLM and Manhattan-Kaboul . His best-selling albums are "Boucan d 'enfer" (2002), "Mistral gagnant" (1985) and Morgane de toi (1983).

In 1989, Renaud was one of the founding members of the group Ça suffit comme ça , which wrote the Bastille appeal .

From 1992 to 1993 and from 1995 to 1996 he worked as a columnist for the satirical weekly newspaper Charlie Hebdo : Renaud bille en tête and Envoyé spécial chez moi .

Renaud was also active as a film actor . In 1993 he played Étienne Lantier in Germinal by Claude Berri . In the black action - tragic comedy Crime Spree - A Dangerous Order (USA / Canada 2002) he played one of the four leading roles alongside Gérard Depardieu , Harvey Keitel and his fellow singer Johnny Hallyday . The film did not go to cinemas in Germany, but was released on DVD in 2003 ( age rating : FSK 16).

According to the record company Virgin , Renaud has sold 14 million records.

Renaud has been awarded the Victoires de la Musique , the most important French music prize , several times . Among other things, he received the honorary award in 2001 and was Artist of the Year in 2003 and 2017.

style

In his songs he often criticizes French politics and society sharply. His style of language is humorous and makes extensive use of popular youth and colloquial languages ​​( Verlan and Argot ).
