Fresnes [ fʁɛn ] is a commune in the Val-de-Marne department in France . The city in the Île-de-France is located 11.2 kilometers south of the center of Paris and has 27,802 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017). Fresnes is the westernmost parish of the Val-de-Marne department.
The third largest prison in France is located in Fresnes ( Maison d'arrêt de Fresnes ), which was used by the Gestapo during World War II to imprison and torture resistance fighters and political prisoners. The nearest RER stations are Parc de Sceaux , La Croix de Berny and Antony on the RER line B and Chemin d'Antony on the RER line C , all in the neighboring municipality of Antony .
The road network is dominated by the A 86 ring road , which runs roughly in an east-west direction through the urban area and separates it into two roughly equal parts, as well as the A 6 which runs through the city in a north-south direction in the east of Fresnes Paris – Lyon.
