Thiais is a French municipality with 29,017 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Val-de-Marne in the region Ile-de-France ; it belongs to the arrondissement of L'Haÿ-les-Roses and the canton of Thiais .

The community is seven kilometers south-southeast of Paris.
The districts of Thiais (apart from the center) are: Les Grands champs, Grignon, Perruchet and Moulin Vert.
Neighboring municipalities of Thiais are: Vitry-sur-Seine in the north, Choisy-le-Roi in the east, Rungis and Chevilly-Larue in the west, Orly and Paray-Vieille-Poste in the south.
history
In the Franco-Prussian War , during the siege of Paris (1870–1871) on September 30, 1870, a sortie attempted by the troops trapped in Paris. In the battle at Chevilly , which was also carried out in the area of Thiais, the French units were stopped and repulsed. The parishes of Chevilly and Thiais were largely destroyed in these fighting.

At the Gare du Pont de Rungis - Aéroport d'Orly station, Thiais is connected to the metropolitan area of Paris via the RER C line. The Autoroute A86 , a ring road around Paris, runs through the territory of the municipality. The A6 (Autoroute du Soleil) to the south of France and the A6b to the center of the capital also begin nearby . Paris-Orly Airport is located in the neighboring municipality of Orly .
