Bernard Dorival

Bernard Dorival (born September 14, 1914 in Paris , † December 11, 2003 in Thiais ) was a French art historian and art critic .

Live and act

Bernard Dorival was born as the son of the musician André Dorival and his wife Suzanne. Beurdeley was born. He attended the Lycée Condorcet and the École normal supérieure in Paris and obtained the degree of "Docteur ès lettres".

Dorival became a curator at the Musée National d'Art Moderne in Paris in 1941 and a teacher at the École du Louvre . From 1955 to 1968 he was curator at the “Musée national des Granges de Port-Royal” in Magny-les-Hameaux and from 1965 to 1968 director of the Musée National d'Art Moderne in the Palais de Tokyo .

From 1968 to 1972 he taught at the Center national de la recherche scientifique . In 1972 he was appointed professor of the history of modern art and the art of the 17th century at the University of Paris IV-Sorbonne . In 1983 he retired . He was an associate member of the Royal Academy of Archeology of Belgium.

Bernard Dorival was married to Claude de La Brosse from 1944. The couple had four children, Gilles, Anne, Pascal and Jérôme.
