Bénabar
Bénabar (born June 16, 1969 in Thiais ; actually Bruno Nicolini ) is a French chansonnier . His stage name is a form of the nickname “Barnabé” formed by twisting syllables ( Verlan ), which he received from his friend and former stage companion Patchol during joint appearances.
Life
Bénabar grew up as the son of a librarian and a director in a Paris suburb. After completing his baccalaureate and a stay in the United States , he trained as a photographer and completed an internship as an assistant director, during which time he made his first short film.
Bénabar worked as a short film maker until the early 1990s. For José Jeanette (1992) he received several prizes, including the “Prix Spécial du Jury” in Montreal. He was also the author of the Comedy series H and La Famille Guérin, produced by Canal + .
At the age of 25, Bénabar turned to music and wrote, composed and interpreted his first chansons. Together with his "associés", he released his first album, La P'tite Monnaie , in 1997 , which was only noticed by a narrow circle of music connoisseurs.
It was only four years later that some of the tracks from his second album Bénabar were broadcast on the radio (especially on France Inter ) and Bénabar was given the opportunity to appear in the opening act for the singer Henri Salvador . A tour and two more studio albums followed, which met a larger audience.
At the Victoires de la Musique 2004, Bénabar received the award for the best French-language album for his third album Les Risques du Métier . On March 10, 2007, as part of the 22nd edition of the Victoires de la Musique TV gala , Bénabar received the award “Best Male Singer of the Year”, as well as the award in the “Chanson originale de l'année” category for his title Le Dîner .
The release of his fourth album Reprise des Négociations in October 2005 was followed by a tour of France, Switzerland and Belgium. The album was awarded triple platinum and then a diamond in France . His fifth album Infréquentable was released on October 13, 2008, L'Effet papillon and À la campagne were released as singles. In February 2009, Bénabar went on tour again.
Bénabar's texts describe (often in a humorous or cynical way) everyday life, society and certain periods of life. The transition from the carefree life of an adolescent to an adult is a frequently recurring theme in his chansons ( Y'a une fille qu'habite chez moi , Monospace ). On a musical level, his chansons are often arranged sparingly to minimalist . The dominant instruments are accordion , piano and brass , occasionally influences of jazz can be heard.
In May 2004, Bénabar had a son. In 2007 he supported Ségolène Royal in the presidential election campaign.
His new album "Inspiré de faits réels" was released in August. The single "Paris by Night" was released in advance in March. "Le regard", "La grande vie" and "La Foret" were released as further singles. From February to April 2015 he went on a major tour through France and Belgium.
