Afro-Cuban All Stars

The Afro-Cuban All Stars is a music project by the Son musician and founder of the Sierra Maestra band , Juan de Marcos González . In order to help the Son music, which had almost been forgotten since the Cuban Revolution in 1959, to regain its popularity, he brought together numerous old stars such as Compay Segundo , Pío Leyva , bassist Orlando “Cachaíto” Lopez and pianist Rubén González from 1996 , with whom he brought together The foundation stone was laid for the well-known music album Buena Vista Social Club .

Today the Afro-Cuban All Stars are a four-generation project whose ages ranged from 13 to 81 at times. Well-known members were or are Rubén González, Eliades Ochoa , Ibrahim Ferrer , Manuel "Guajiro" Mirabal , Omara Portuondo , Orlando "Cachaito" López, Bárbaro "Barbarito" Torres , Manuel Licea (Puntillita) , Raúl Planas , Félix Valoy , Richard Egües , José Antonio "Maceo" Rodríguez , Pío Leyva and the young Yulien Oviedo Sánchez .
