history
The first settlement in today's municipality took place in 8000 BC by the Montadins . Years ago, around 2200 who lived salyes in the field. In 102 BC, a Roman camp of the general Gaius Marius was built on a level near the Roquefavour aqueduct, which still exists today . In the second half of the 1st century BC there was a fortified settlement, but it was abandoned around 25 BC. After the destruction by the Saracens in the 10th century, the inhabitants settled in the plateau. As a result, between about 920 and 940, a castle was built around which the village of Ventabren was built. According to a document from 1170, the village belonged to the Counts of Les-Baux . The castle was an extremely stable fortress that had only one entrance. It also had its own chapel. During the reign of Johanna , who was Countess of Provence and Queen of Naples , the castle gained importance. In 1381, shortly before her death, her adoptive son sold the castle, which was then owned by various lords. The castle remained undamaged by various wars. In 1794, in the course of the revolution, the demolition was decided, which was supported by the residents. In 1851 there were 327 houses in the village. On August 31, 1857, the opening of a railway line was celebrated with a banquet. Several factories were built in the 19th century, the first one in 1820 that processed copper ore. A paper mill followed in 1830. In 1869 there were four mills in the village and in 1890 there were six olive oil companies. Electric current was introduced in 1924.
