Jouques

Jouques is a French municipality with 4413 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Bouches-du-Rhône in the region of Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur .

geography

The municipality is located between Aix-en-Provence, 25 kilometers away, and Manosque, 30 kilometers away . Neighboring municipalities are Peyrolles-en-Provence , Rians , Mirabeau and Saint-Paul-lès-Durance . Jouques is located in the hinterland of the Durance , in the valley of the Réal river .

history

The first sure traces of human life come from the time between 11,000 and 10,000 BC. Later the community was mainly shaped by the Romans. Citizens took power during the French Revolution , but before that there had been no more than ten noble families and half a dozen priests. Today's town hall was inaugurated in 1912.
