Sénas is a French municipality with 6965 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Bouches-du-Rhône in the region of Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur .

geography

The place is on the Alpilles mountain range , twelve kilometers north of Salon-de-Provence . In the north lies the neighboring town of Orgon . The community lies on the Durance . The municipality is part of the Alpilles Regional Nature Park .

history

Since 1512 a ferry has been connecting the town with Mérindol on the other side of the Durance. In 1838 Sénas was the place where the "Stèles d'Orgon", the stelae of Orgon, were found. They are the remains of a Neolithic form of settlement in the Alpilles .
