José Guadalupe Padilla Lozano

José Guadalupe Padilla Lozano (born December 12, 1920 in San Miguel el Alto , † September 8, 2013 in Veracruz ) was Bishop of Veracruz .

Life

José Guadalupe Padilla Lozano entered the diocesan seminary after attending the Minor Seminary of San Juan de los Lagos . After studying philosophy and theology, he was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Guadalajara on April 20, 1946 .

Pope John XXIII appointed him on January 15, 1963 first Bishop of Veracruz. The Archbishop of Guadalajara, José Cardinal Garibi y Rivera , donated him episcopal ordination on March 19, 1963 ; Co- consecrators were Francisco Javier Nuño y Guerrero , Coadjutor Archbishop of Guadalajara, and Manuel Pío López Estrada , Archbishop of Jalapa .

He was the council father of the last three sessions of the Second Vatican Council .

In 1971 he founded the Secretariat for Evangelization and Catechesis. He was committed to the new evangelization and structuring of the deaneries. In 1990 Pope John Paul II was a guest in his diocese.

On February 18, 2000, Pope John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation.
