Punaauia is a municipality in French Polynesia . It has a population of more than 20,000 and is located on the western shore of the island of Tahiti in the Pacific Ocean .

Economy and culture

Punaauia is a tourist town with a resort and an associated hotel complex . There are also mainly shops and factories. The industrial zones (zones industrielles / ZI) are called “la ZI de Vaipopo”, “la ZI de Papereu” and “la ZI de la vallée de la Punauru”.

The electricity company "Électricité de Tahiti" takes care of the production and distribution of electrical energy. The Musée de Tahiti et des Îles , founded in Punaauia in 1974, is an ethnology, natural history and history museum for French Polynesia.
